Bi-objective Approximation Scheme for Makespan and Reliability Optimization on Uniform Parallel Machines

چکیده
We study the problem of scheduling independent tasks on a set of related processors which have a probability of failure governed by an exponential law. We are interested in the bi-objective analysis, namely simultaneous optimization of the makespan and the reliability. We show that this problem can not be approximated by a single schedule. A similar problem has already been studied leading to a ̇ 2̄, 1 ̧ -approximation algorithm (i.e. for any fixed value of the makespan, the obtained solution is optimal on the reliability and no more than twice the given makespan). We provide an algorithm which has a much lower complexity. This solution is finally used to derive a (2 + , 1)-approximation of the Pareto set of the problem, for any > 0.

A bi-objective model for a scheduling problem of unrelated parallel batch processing machines with fuzzy parameters by two fuzzy multi-objective meta-heuristics
This paper considers a bi-objective model for a scheduling problem of unrelated parallel batch processing machines to minimize the makespan and maximum tardiness, simultaneously. Each job has a specific size and the data corresponding to its ready time, due date and processing time-dependent machine are uncertain and determined by trapezoidal fuzzy numbers. Each machine has a specific capacity,...

This paper considers a scheduling problem of a set of independent jobs on unrelated parallel machines (UPMs) that minimizesthe maximum completion time (i.e., makespan or ), maximum earliness ( ), and maximum tardiness ( ) simultaneously. Jobs have non-identical due dates, sequence-dependent setup times and machine-dependentprocessing times. A multi-objective mixed-integer linear programmi...
متن کاملOptimizing performance and reliability on heterogeneous parallel systems: Approximation algorithms and heuristics
We study the problem of scheduling tasks (with and without precedence constraints) on a set of related processors which have a probability of failure governed by an exponential law. The goal is to design approximation algorithms or heuristics that optimize both makespan and reliability. First, we show that both objectives are contradictory and that the number of points of the Pareto-front can b...
متن کاملMulti-objective list scheduling of workflow applications in distributed computing infrastructures
Executing large-scale applications in distributed computing infrastructures (DCI), for example modern Cloud environments, involves optimization of several conflicting objectives such as makespan, reliability, energy, or economic cost. Despite this trend, scheduling in heterogeneous DCIs has been traditionally approached as a single or bi-criteria optimization problem. In this paper, we propose ...

This paper considers a two-stage assembly flow shop problem (TAFSP) where m machines are in the first stage and an assembly machine is in the second stage. The objective is to minimize a weighted sum of earliness and tardiness time for n available jobs. JIT seeks to identify and eliminate waste components including over production, waiting time, transportation, inventory, movement and defective...
